NZ National Masters
10000m

The 10000m is the longest track event. Its popularity at Nationals wanes due to the impact on the ability to combine with other events.

The 10000m has been an Olympic event since 1912 for men and women from 1988.

Women have only been offered the 10000m at NZMA Champs since 1982; prior to that the longest even available was 3000m.

In 2018, 2019 and 2020 it was held as a separate event as a combined ANZ/NZMA Championship Race.

For the 2020/21 season, it was held as part of The Agency Group 10000m Festival, an arrangement that has continued since. This has meant the champs happen in the early part of the season i.e. the 2023 Champs are held in calendar year 2022, in the first half of the 2022/23 season.

The 2021/22 season was downgraded to a challenge due to Covid locking down several regions and preventing their attendance.
